Okay, it’s been a week, and I’m following up on the challenge of writing 50,000 words in a month.
Now, let’s start with this: I’ve done NaNo annually since 2007, and also some of the July Camp NaNoWriMos, and not flunked one yet. As of this moment, one week in, I have already blasted past 20,000 words, and my free time hasn’t really started yet.
50,000 words? Piece of cake.
I’ve also found time for some blog posts…I write them ahead of time unless they are time-dependent like this one. I found something to say about Ergo Proxy, finally.
The hot babes of Ergo Proxy: Re-L Mayer (left) and Pino.
I don’t count those words. These words, for that matter.
My goal is not just to “win” by writing 50,000 words; my goal is to complete the first draft of a novel. That will be harder. Based on what I’ve written so far and my sketch outline of the plot, this book might be 90,000-100,000 words. My record for a single NaNo is 108,000 words; this could get tough.
But it’s about writing, about putting butt in chair and hands on keys. It’s working. I’m writing like a wild man.
And that, as they say, be da point.
The NaNo format works for some people and not for others, but if you want to be a writer, its worth a try. No two writers work the same, but maybe a little time press is just what you need.
Give it a rip sometime. Maybe you’ll like it too.
And now, 1:17 AM, it’s sake time. Night, all!
